What other book might you compare Titus Groan to, and why? It's an absorbing world that the audiobook transports you into - beautiful stuff! Terriffic audio performance, bringing a wide range of characters to life. Where does Titus Groan rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far? I have found it one of the ultimate experiences that a novel can give - to be lost in another world, be transported somewhere else in time and place, to visually see, to emotionally feel, and I can not imagine a better spoken performance than that given to us by Saul Reichlin. He has been able to add more to it for me.ĭid you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? He has brought the characters and particularly the language to life in a way that I don't remember from reading it myself. Having listened to the Millenium Trilogy also read by Saul Reichlin I knew I could trust listening to him throughout this Trilogy - and I was more than impressed. What about Saul Reichlin’s performance did you like? I've read some of the Amazon comments relating to book/kindle version - their reviews are better written than I can, echoing having read it as a child many times and being absorbed by this world created by Peake that can not be compared directly to anything else written. Would you consider the audio edition of Titus Groan to be better than the print version?

But he was more than just an artist: Kirby also understood the psychological complexities that heroes needed to have and he endowed them with a kind of superhuman humanity that embraced both shadow and doubt and which even suggested compassion towards villains. Only an artist with Kirby’s flexible imagination was capable of creating figures that had such extraordinary graphic vitality and striking physical attributes. Kirby was, after all responsible for the first appearance of the “Fantastic Four”-Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing-and it was his phenomenal “pencil” skills that made these characters and others take shape and come alive. After Kirby’s death, a 2009 lawsuit filed by the artist’s family to obtain a fair share of movie royalties was settled successfully, helping to posthumously acknowledge his importance. The issue of Kirby not being given adequate credit is what caused him to leave Marvel for DC Comics. He also-if you read what he later had to say-did much more than just draw characters. While working at Marvel, it was Stan Lee who generally got the writer credit, while Jack Kirby was the artist/illustrator who created the “look” of things while often getting second billing. Despite the growing interest in Aristotelian approaches to contemporary philosophy of science, few metaphysicians have engaged directly with the question of how a neo-Aristotelian metaphysics of nature might change the landscape for theological discussion concerning theology and naturalism, the place of human beings within nature, or the problem of divine causality. Let me start by saying that this novella should absolutely only be read after reading FOURTH WORLD, since it relies heavily on the events on the novel (plus, everyone should read FOURTH WORLD anyway because it's awesome). LOVED this novella! I'm a huge fan of Lyssa's book, FOURTH WORLD, which I read last summer, and this companion novella really hit the spot for me. Without having aired their opinions in the course of passionate and open debate, team members rarely, if ever, buy in and commit to decisions, though they may feign agreement during meetings.ĭysfunction 4: Avoidance of accountability-ducking the responsibility to call peers on counterproductive behavior which sets low standardsīecause of this lack of real commitment and buy-in, team members develop an avoidance of accountability, the fourth dysfunction. Instead, they resort to veiled discussions and guarded comments.ĭysfunction 3: Lack of commitment-feigning buy-in for group decisions creates ambiguity throughout the organizationĪ lack of healthy conflict is a problem because it ensures the third dysfunction of a team: lack of commitment. Teams that lack trust are incapable of engaging in unfiltered and passionate debate of ideas. This failure to build trust is damaging because it set the tone for the second dysfunction: fear of conflict. Team members who are not genuinely open with one another about their mistakes and weaknesses make it impossible to build a foundation for trust.ĭysfunction 2: Fear of conflict-seeking artificial harmony over constructive passionate debate Essentially, this stems from their unwillingness to be vulnerable within the group.
